Removing Stains

How to Remove Wine Stains

September has already ended. And a few months from now, the gift-giving season will almost start. More often than not, people hang out together and have parties during this season. Rather than go to fancy restaurants, they would rather have their celebrations one of their friend’s house. Usually, they have foods waiting to be served along with a bottle of a fine red wine.

Unfortunately, accidents may happen while partying. Red wines can spill anywhere in your place including your favorite dress or your expensive carpet. Of course, you can’t immediately tell your visitors to move aside because you want to treat the red wine stain as soon as possible. It would still take a few more hours before the party is over and the stain would already dry up by then.

Here is one wine stain remedy that would help you remove the stain from your clothes or from your carpet. What you need to do is to mix a liquid detergent soap with hydrogen peroxide. Dab it or spray it on the area stained by the wine. This would not only work with carpets and clothes but with tablecloths at the same time. However, because of the bleaching properties of the hydrogen peroxide, it is possible that it may bleach or fade the color out of the fabric. That is why it is advised that you test a small hidden spot first before putting this mixture on the wine stained area.

You may also opt to mix a laundry detergent and lukewarm water. By using a clean damp cloth, blot the mixture to the stained area. Make sure that you would not rub the spot with wine stain. It would only increase the size of the stain, making it even harder for you to get rid of it easily. There is also an old method of removing red wine stains and that is to soak the stained spot on the white wine. However, this may be done only if the red wine stained your clothes. Studies show that the components of the wine may damage the fibers of your carpet. That is why is not recommended to soak the carpet in wine for long.

There is another solution that would help you get rid of the wine stain easily even the most sensitive fabric as well as white carpet that you have. What’s better is that the things that you need for this solution can be found right in your home.

First thing that you must do is to mix ample amount of lukewarm water with your mild bleaching detergent. Simply blot it on the stained area to avoid increasing the size of the stain. On a separate container, mix two thirds cup of water with your ordinary vinegar. Again, blot the mixture on the stained area. To rinse, use sponge and apply it gently on the carpet or on the fabric. Simply blot the sponge on the wine stain and make sure that you would not leave any marks of detergent on the affected spot. Aside from that, you must also make sure that you rinse it very well to avoid leaving the scent of the vinegar.

Because of the bleaching agents present in the detergent as well as vinegar, it is recommended that you test a small spot first before doing it on the whole wine stain.
